Last evening we enjoyed dinner with a group of former young marrieds from a class convened in the early 1980s. In those days one key aim for the class was the development among the couples of authentic and lasting friendships.  The evening provided a glimpse into God's blessing of that intention and the value of it. 

For the last month, I've been sitting on the sidelines of suffering...

A friend's sister is struck down by an aneurysm deep in her brain. During the week's vigil at the hospital, her husband contracts the flu. Then one of her children. Her responsibilities at work must wait while she sits helpless, grieving, bewildered.

Ladies, I'm sure you've said this at least once: "Something about that just isn't clicking with me. I'm getting a bad feeling about it."

The conversation continues: "A bad feeling? Like about what exactly?"

Your response: "I can't really say for sure. Something's just not right."

You may or may not be taken seriously. You may or may not take yourself seriously. But you've just run into that interesting little thing called "women's intuition."

Jealousy reared its ugly head as I watched my now 11 week old soon cooing and smiling at the sweet woman who helps takes care of him while I'm at work.  Didn't expect that one!

Becoming a new mom has brought out many thoughts and emotions and I never expected jealousy to come forth like it did.

As we come to our final week on this series of biblical decision-making, we'll look at wise counsel. God has provided the Holy Spirit, whom Jesus called our Counselor, and the body of believers.

How does a church act when they treat one another as family? “One another” phrases are used fifty-eight times in the New Testament. They describe a caring and respectful family ethos. They help us live together as a Christlike community, applicable in mixed gender relationships. Today, and in future blogs, I'd like to examine several examples of the one another’s in the Bible.

Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. (Rom. 12:10)

Recently my colleagues and I started an honest discussion about church hopping and what is our role in encouraging it or discouraging it.  We were talking about two different demographics, college students and young adults, but nonetheless there were fundamental questions that were raised. 

A few weeks ago, I wrote this post about the "Tired Thirties" and gave a few reasons why us thirty-somethings can get overwhelmed with life. Today, the long-awaited suggestions for surviving....

So, I promised two weeks ago to have some suggestions about how to survive the "tired thirties" and/or how to minister to those in the midst of it. But after the week we've had at our house my only advice right now is.....

don't let your husband get viral meningitis. or any kind of meningitis for that matter.
