In my previous two posts, I referred to internationally renowned atheist philosopher Antony Flew and his recent conversion to theism. In his recent autobiography, There is A God: How the World’s Most Notorious Atheist Changed His Mind (Doubleday, 2007), Flew describes not only his reasons for believing in God but why, if any of the established religions is true, Christianity is the one, in his words, to beat. He does not claim to have become a Christian, but he prints in Appendix B responses he has received from Anglican Bishop of Durham, N. T.

Famed lifelong atheist philosophy professor Antony Flew now believes in God. He declares in his recently published autobiography, There is A God: How the World’s Most Notorious Atheist Changed His Mind (Doubleday, 2007), that Christianity is the religion to beat. A key current conversation partner for Flew is prolific New Testament scholar, professor and Anglican bishop of Durham, N. T.

Martin Hengel's new historical Jesus book, Jesus und das Judentum, concludes with a discussion of the witnesses to the resurrection (He wrote the work with his longtime colleague, Anna Maria Schwemer). This chapter and discussion comes at the end of a book where Hengel is stressing the self-conscious messianic nature of Jesus' ministry and actions. He begins his final content chapter with a careful walk through
1 Cor 15:3-8. He sees this confession Paul passed on as coming from the Jerusalem community, pointing to the eyewitness roots of the tradition.

In 2004, academics around the world were abuzz with the news that famed British atheist philosopher and professor Dr. Antony Flew had converted to theism. An article in Philosophia Christi definitively broke the story, after a couple of premature announcements in other places. Evangelical philosopher and apologist, Dr. Gary Habermas, had interviewed Flew and had himself played an influential role as friend and conversation partner over the years in bringing Flew to this dramatic change of mind.

The debate concerning the authenticity of "Secret Mark" has certainly not abated. Two items indicate this: (1) a recent panel discussion, and (2) a forthcoming article in the Journal for the Study of the Historical Jesus.

One of the issues between Jesus and our culture is the impression about Christianity formed by those who loudly claim to be followers of him. Nothing represents such a movement as much as the Religious Right in the USA. A recent assessment of the future of that movement has been published by David Kuo, who was deputy director of faith initiatives for the George W. Bush White House. He has just published an op-ed piece called "Not Your Father"s Religious Right." It is worth reading and reflecting on. Here is a key excerpt.
