This blog will be brief. Day of Discovery is broadcasting a series
on the IBR Jesus Group's work on the historical Jesus. This is a decade
long project involving several evangelical scholars. We filmed these
shows last summer as we were wrapping up our work for publication later
this year. It is eight shows, two of which are now up on the net for
streaming broadcast. Please take advantage of this opportunity to see a
report on a project that was a decade in the making and let us know what
you think.

Debunking One Item of Anti-Christian Apologetics in Albania
Dan Wallace reported last year on the ancient New Testament manuscripts discovered by Western scholars after they had been preserved for years, largely unnoticed, in Albanian archives. Today I had a chance to examine some of them.

The Date of Christmas: In the Summer? 12/12/08
I did an interview for ABC's Good Morning America a few nights ago on the date of Christmas. It was triggered by an astronomer's claim to have nailed down the date to a day in June. The origins of this date are worth discussing, since the gospels do not give us a specific day or even the season Jesus was born. The most we can get for the biblical data is a range of years. Here is the gist of what I told ABC in an email before the interview:

The Jesus Project
Several scholars have begun another quest for the historical Jesus. "The Jesus Project, "according to the Christian Post (http://www.christianpost.com/article/20081210/new-quest-for-historical-j...), has as its goal "to objectively determine what can be 'reliably

A New Dead-Sea Scroll Fragment
At the Near East Archaeological Society meetings in Providence, RI, this Friday, Dead Sea Scrolls experts Peter Flint and Martin Abegg announced and discussed the discovery of a new scroll fragment from Qumran. On its own, it doesn't seem very exciting compared to most of the Scrolls--just a fragment of Nehemiah 3:14-15 with names of people involved in rebuilding the wall in Jerusalem and the locations at which they worked.
