Continuing yesterday's thread...
Okay, so you're a church or ministry leader (Pastor, Minister, Priest, CEO, ED etc.) and you want to start blogging. What do you blog about?
Here are some ideas to get your brain wheels a spinnin':
- Thought of the Day (or week) - short bursts of spiritual information to stimulate your community. Discuss areas you are passionate or concerned about. Faithful discipleship. Pain. Loss. Prayer. Joy.
- Verse of the Day (easy to copy/paste from bible.org). For bonus points you can even add some comments or unpack the verse a bit.
- Community topical threads. Share, discuss and explore areas of interest to your members. For example: Monday Men's Ministry day, Tuesday's Discipleship Thread, Wednesday Women etc.
- Discuss local issues. Are you a missions minded church? Discuss local needs. Rally the troops to serve a local teen orphan shelter. Is there an issue in the local schools, how do we as Christians think about, pray about and deal with them.
- Your life, your struggles, your joys. Being a follower of Christ is messy. Church is messy. Honest discussion can help. Especially if framed well. Talk about your unbelieving uncle (and ask for prayer). Share about a time when you just didn't feel like praying... for a year. Share about why you care so much for the orphanage in Mexico your groups supports an why you would like to see XX people go with you on a mission trip.
- Ask questions. For example: I'm preparing for our upcoming sermon series on Authentic Discipleship. I'd like to know - what is your definition of discipleship. You might get deafening silence. Or a flurry of responses. But within a day or two you are sure get a pulse reading on your communities' thinking.
- Take a point from last week's sermon and dive deeper, provide links to related articles or topics online and engage your community with questions.
- Provide recommendations on good teaching or growth materials. Point to websites you like, articles you recommend and people you learn from. Talk about what you are reading. Share your passionate belief that every Christian should read The Screwtape Letters (or whatever).
- Mix and match the above.
- For extra credit. Buy a nice mic or go multi-media. Record your thought of the day. Interview a local ministry leader. Interview your youth director or a friend who just wrote a new book. 1-5 minutes, edit it with free tools like Audacity and add it to your post.
