Richard Foster made the keen observation that " The modern hero is the poor boy who purposefully becomes rich rather than the rich boy who voluntarily becomes poor." Isn't interesting how we try to recuse ourselves from the story of Jesus and the Rich Young Ruler? It is just story about what that particular man needed to do in order to surrender to Jesus. There have been some who have thought that the story is normative for all of us, this led many to make vows of poverty and head for the desert. A modern hero who voluntarily chose poverty and to work with the poor has just finished fourteen years of work in Cambodia. I met Dave when he was living large, working hard and going for the gold in a major industry. He came to our church and never left, that is until God called him years later to work with the poor. Dave worked with our Junior High Students, he cared deeply about them and it showed. He had a very large group and the parents were just as enthralled as the kids. He and his wife Lisa left us and moved to Santa Ana, California to live among poor Cambodians in order to learn the language and understand the culture. Dave and Lisa will never be forgotten in Cambodia, their ministry was nothing short of spectacular. Dave has a way with people, he took pastors on motorcycles out into the bush in order to plant church and train pastors. His motorcycle skills are legendary, after all he was a motor cross champ in his younger days. He worked in a hospital near his home for AIDS patients. The first year the patients became christians, the second year they became elders and teachers and the third year they died. Words do fail me in paying tribute to Dave and Lisa and their fourteen years of service. Now they are back home and they are taking two years to seek God and decide what is next. Such people have a greatness about them that is rare and does not require tribute. But my simple words today are, "Well done and good friend, it is a honor to know you."

Very inspiring and you are so right hat the world. It hit me like a ton of bricks the world loves rags to riches and despises riches to rags.
Could that be why Jesus is seen as a poor man's saviour? I beg to differ as he is the saviour of all, whether rich or poor , black or white, American or European or whatever race.
With him there is no discrimination only love and kindness. It shows in this touching story how the love of Christ has been manifested in so many lives in a country so far away from the normal lives of the western world.
I pray that he may find guidance and nurture in the name of Jesus to fulfil his God filled footsteps.
Amen
Have you ever heard of World Kindness Day? Don’t worry if you haven’t – most people haven’t heard of it. World Kindness Day is November 13th, and it’s a day to set aside the petty squabbles that people seem to love to engage in for all kinds of reasons. It’s the world’s chance to give “quick loans” of the heart to the rest of mankind. The usual excuses as to why you won’t or can’t, like race, gender, class, religion, political leanings, these are mere contrivances and trivialities that can be set-aside for a few days out of the year. Its nice to see people together beyond this factors that sometimes affecting them, or just simply being equal in all sense. If you can’t think of a local charity, you can check out the online charity portal www.causecast.org, or look at various websites such as www.actsofkindness.org that have many ideas that you can pick up on. You could maybe even take out quick cash loans that you can use to pay it forward, as it were. You have to pay the lender back, but the satisfaction that comes from acts of kindness is beyond price.
