I am a teacher. I spend pretty much all my time writing, speaking, reading, and learning. I hear daily from readers who have questions, challenges, or simply want to say thank you. That is gratifying, but days can go by when I don't feel like I have taught anyone something that matters. But then there is my 7 year old grandson James......He has a wonderful disposition, he is loving and affectionate. A dare devil he is not-he doesn't like noise, speed, heights,-he needs to be nudged. He owns a bright red bike, he has had it for two years and it has never been ridden. Last week I had him for the day, I made up my mind that this is the day James will ride his bike. We had taken off the pedals so he could learn to balance with his feet and get acquainted with guiding the bike. My wife Jane asked where James and I were going, I said, " We are going to the school yard and we will be back when James rides his bike home." We got to the school and he pushed himself around the black top for a few minutes, then he announced, "I'm ready." I screwed on the pedals and off he went, wobbly at first, then faster and faster until he was riding. An hour later I made him stop so he could ride past our home so his grandmother could go crazy and the neighbor kids would see him. Later that day when the three of us were on yet another ride, I said to Jane, " I wish I put today in a bottle and keep it forever." I really felt great about the whole thing, and so did James. Later he told me, " I was afraid, I didn't think I could do it, but I did." James was able to break through a fear barrier and I was there to witness it. He was always afraid of falling, he fell several times that day, but he got up and started riding again like nothing had happened. Teaching people to obey everything Christ commanded is very much same way. Help people break through their fear barriers- it will make your day, no, make that your week, no, make that your month.
