I am in the midst of a three night Jesus Seminar here in Berlin at Beit Sar Shalom, a messianic congregation in Berlin. The last night is tonight. We are going through key scenes in the life of Jesus. I will cover about 22 passages when the Seminar is done.
Translation includes German and Russian. I am telling the story of Jesus from the "earth up" and speaking about Jewish backgrounds. It is making for a nice Seminar sequence (4 1/2 hours total without translation).
The "earth up" approach is something I will be addressing in Hungary at the Lausanne Conference on Jewish Evangelism. I have written on it in my book Jesus according to Scripture as it relates especially to Matthew, Mark and Luke. The key idea is that these gospels show who Jesus is more than saying who he is and that how Jesus can be seen as completely exalted is gradually revealed as his ministry proceeds. The story works from "the earth up," which is precisely how we come to understand who Jesus is, because none of us are born understanding his uniqueness.
I plan to develop this kind of gospel reading more over time. So this is an important walk through to see if it "takes". So far, so good.
